Zhangye Geopark Establishes Sister Geopark Partnership with Dunhuang Global Geopark of China

On August 20, 2018, Zhangye Geopark invites Dunhuang Global Geopark to take part in the Innovative Cultural Construction Seminar of Geological Science Popularization of Gansu Provincial Geopark in Zhangye, and established sister geopark partnership with it.

    Dunhuang Global Geopark of China is composed of Yardang Geo-area, Mount Mingshashan and            Crescent Moon-shaped Spring Geo-area, Natural Landscape Tourism Area and Cultural Heritage Tourism Area, covering an area of 2067.2 kilometers. Landforms formed under special geological background and extremely droughty climate, integrate together with specific geographic location and cultural relics on the ancient silk road. The magic Yardang landform, Mount Mingshashan and Crescent Moon-shaped Spring, vast desert and gobi, as well as West Lake wetlands are the gifts by nature; the world famous Mogao Grottoes, Yangguan Pass, Yumenguan Pass, ancient military ruins-Han Dynasty Great Wall and Hecang Castle Site on the silk road have noted culture and history of Dunhuang .

       On September 19, 2015, Dunhuang Geopark was successfully selected into the UGGP Directory and was awarded the title of "Dunhuang Geobal Geopark". Dunhuang Global Geopark is the first in Gansu Province, the 32nd in China and the 113th Global Geopark in the world.

    Zhangye Geopark established sister geopark partnership with Dunhuang Geobal Geopark will further strengthen the communication and exchanges between two geoparks, help with the application and construction of Zhangye Global Geopark, and promote the development of geopark together.
